3D Secure

Our website has implemented 3D Secure to improve online payment security for the customers.  Therefore, we would like to suggest you to have your credit/debit card activated with 3D Secure before making online payment.

How to activate 3D Secure for your credit/debit card

To activate 3D Secure for your credit or debit card, log in to your bank's net banking portal or mobile app and navigate to the card settings or services section to find and activate the 3D Secure feature, which may be branded as Visa Secure or Mastercard SecureCode. Follow the on-screen prompts to register your card by providing required details and potentially verifying your identity with an One-Time Password (OTP) sent via SMS. If you have trouble, contact your bank's customer support for assistance.

Step-by-Step Activation

  1. Log in to your bank's online portal or mobile app.
  2. Find the card management section within your online banking or app.
  3. Look for a 3D Secure option (it might be labeled as Visa Secure, Mastercard SecureCode, or a similar name).
  4. Select the card you want to activate.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to register the card.
  6. Enter the required information, which may include your card number, PIN, or other personal details.
  7. Verify your identity by entering a One-Time Password (OTP) sent to your registered mobile number or email.
  8. Confirm the registration to complete the process.

What to Expect After Activation

  • Your card will now be activated for online purchases.
  • During online transactions at participating merchants, you may be prompted to authenticate yourself using the 3D Secure system.
  • This authentication can involve entering a password, a temporary code from an SMS, or using biometric verification.
  • Upon successful authentication, your payment will be completed.

Troubleshooting

  • If you cannot find the 3D Secure option, look for related settings like "Online Payments," "Card Services," or "Secure Online Payments".
  • If you continue to have issues, contact your bank's customer support for direct assistance.

About 3d Secure

3D Secure adds a security layer to online card payments by verifying the cardholder's identity, typically via a one-time password (OTP), biometric scan, or push notification sent to your mobile device. During checkout, the merchant's payment processor sends the transaction details to the card issuer, who then prompts the customer for authentication. If the customer successfully authenticates, the issuer authorizes the payment; otherwise, the transaction is declined.

The 3D Secure Process

  1. Initiate a Purchase: You enter your card details and complete the checkout on a merchant's website.
  2. Request for Verification: The merchant's system sends a request to your card issuer for verification.
  3. Authentication Prompt: Your card issuer may redirect you to a secure page or send a push notification to your mobile device.
  4. Provide Authentication: You will then provide proof of identity through one of these methods:
    • A one-time password (OTP) sent via SMS or email to your registered contact.
    • Biometric verification, such as a fingerprint.
    • A confirmation within your banking app.
  1. Authorization: If you successfully authenticate, your card issuer authorizes the transaction.
  2. Transaction Completion: The payment is then completed, and you are returned to the merchant's site to finish the purchase.

How to activate/enable online payment service

To activate online payments, you must enable the feature with your bank, digital wallet, or payment provider. The exact steps depend on the type of payment service you are using.  Most banks now issue debit and credit cards with online payments disabled by default for security. You can enable them through the following channels:

  • Mobile banking app: Log in to your bank's app. Navigate to the "Cards," "Services," or "Manage Card" section. From there, you should find an option to enable e-commerce or online transactions for your specific card.
  • Internet banking: After logging into your bank's online portal, go to the "Cards" or "Value Added Services" tab. Select your card and look for an option to switch on "Online Usage".
  • Customer care: You can call your bank's customer service number and follow the instructions to activate online payments over the phone.
  • ATM: Some banks allow you to activate online transactions at an ATM. Navigate to the "Card Services" or "Enable/Disable" menu and select "ECOM" for online transactions.
  • SMS: A few banks, like India's SBI, offer SMS activation by sending a text message to a specific number.
  • Bank branch: You can also visit your nearest bank branch for assistance with activating the service.

How to set a limit for card-not-present transactions

To set a limit for card-not-present (CNP) transactions, like online payments, log in to your bank's online or mobile banking portal, navigate to the card management section, and find the option to adjust transaction limits or payment controls. Select the specific card, then find and enable the control for online or CNP transactions to set a desired monetary limit, and finally, confirm the update to apply it.

Steps to Set a CNP Transaction Limit

  1. Log in to your banking account: Access your bank's website or mobile application using your credentials.
  2. Locate card management: Find the section for managing your cards, which might be labeled as "Cards," "Payment Controls," or "Set Card Usage/Limits".
  3. Select your card: Choose the specific credit or debit card for which you want to set a CNP limit.
  4. Find the CNP limit setting: Look for an option to adjust or set a limit for "Card-Not-Present Transactions," "Online Transactions," or similar.
  5. Enter the desired limit: Input the maximum amount you want to be able to spend on online or CNP transactions within a specified period (e.g., monthly).
  6. Confirm and update: Complete the process by tapping a button like "Update Limit" or "Confirm" to apply the new setting.

Important Considerations

  • Bank-specific platforms: The exact terminology and navigation will vary depending on your bank's platform.
  • Daily vs. monthly limits: Some banks offer options to set both daily and monthly limits, so be sure to check what your bank provides.
  • Confirmation of changes: After updating, your bank may provide a confirmation or an activity log to show the changes.
  • Default limits: You may be able to remove your set limit and restore the default, depending on your bank's services.
